Understanding how urban landscapes influence pollinator communities for the better management of native pollinators and increased food production in urban agriculture
Ava is an entomologist and conservation biologist, specializing on human modified habitats. Their PhD research investigates how urbanization shapes pollinator communities in Ōtautahi Christchurch and surrounding areas. They are interested in how urban biodiversity supports both ecological resilience and human wellbeing.
Ava's PhD is part of the Food Transitions 2050 program, where she is working jointly with the University of Canterbury and the Bioeconomy Science Institute, Plant and Food research group. Their work is supported by the Brian Mason Scientific and Technical Trust and the Koiata Botanical Trust.
